The last paragraph of my paper on criminalizing parents who leave their children in cars to die

Involuntary manslaughter is just that. Involuntary. I do not presume that anyone could kill their child in such a grotesque manner intentionally. The legal dictionary identifies that the difference in murder and involuntary manslaughter is “killing without intent”. Why should these parents get to walk free, with full rights to the care of other minor children, when a others have to pay their debt to society due to their reckless behavior? It seems hardly fair. Perhaps these judiciaries feel that suffering the grief of a child lost is punishment for the crime, and further disciplinary measures are deemed cruel and unusual punishment. Regardless, the act of leaving a child unattended, that “lapse of judgement”, is dangerous to other human life, one that is not capable of caring for its self. If abortion is illegal, then shouldn’t we consider leaving a helpless child alone in a car, to bake or freeze to death, a crime as well?
